DEPARTMENT: Human Resources
ISSUE UNDER CONSIDERATION:
Authorization to add two (2) grant funded positions in the Sheriff's Office.  These positions will form a new Traffic Safety Division for the County.

CURRENT STATUS:
The Sheriff does not currently have a dedicated traffic safety division. 
POINTS TO CONSIDER:

This division will be funded in its entirety by a grant from  the SC Department of Public Safety.  The grant will fund the personnel including fringes, as well as purchase and equip their vehicles and personal radios.

It is important to note that since the positions are funded by a grant, anyone hired to fill them will be informed that the continuation of the position is contingent upon future grant award.  They will be required  to sign a memorandum of understanding to that effect.  If at any time the grant is terminated, then the associated positions will be eliminated.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:
None.  The positions and all operational costs are fully funded by the grant.

OPTIONS:
Council may approve or deny the request.
STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends approval.
